From Paul Ward, this is "a work to show on the topic of hunters feeding the wild animals they shoot."

"At first it may seem a touching sentiment, especially during seasons, where food is scarce. However (with that first sentence of course there's a 'however') the feeding of animals such as wild boar and deer during winter is devastating for forests.

During the winter months wild animals lose weight and usually the weakest will die off. Agrainage (feeding wild animals with grain) artificially swells the population, who will later go on to strip the bark from trees, which is essentially a death sentence for the trees. These giants of the forest that go on to die would have provided food for the animals in the Spring/Summer/Autumn with their acorns, berries and nuts, but due to overpopulation caused by agrainage they never will. So, by feeding them in Winter you starve them in Summer, which then causes more forest devastation as the starving wildlife population munches on yet more bark and sapling trees.

The vast chunk of this idea was inspired by a couple of books by Peter Wohlleben wonderful reads that they were!"

This is a print of an original artwork completed in acrylic, ink and silver leaf on paper. This wall art is available to purchase framed or unframed.

Paul Ward is a painter and printmaker whose work blends lyrical storytelling with a fierce love for the natural world. Based in France, they have built a career creating portraits, commissions, and evocative works that confront unsustainable practices while celebrating the beauty of animals, plants, and wild places. Driven by equal parts fury and wonder, their art champions the “little guys” — from pigeons to forests — reminding us of what’s worth protecting.
